Representatives of the D Company The Rifles had to dash from the Freedom of the Borough of Hartlepool event to collect an award in Durham City. They were presented jointly with the 5th Royal Regiment Fusiliers the Hotspur Award by the honorary president of the Northumbrian Association Mr. John Cuthbert.
The Hotspur Award is given to a person who has “through bold endeavour” done something to benefit or raise the profile of the North East.
