Summer Brass Band Concerts

Sundays from 2pm - Free

Join us on Sunday afternoons in our lovely parkland for concerts of fine brass band music by some of the region's best brass bands. The first concert of the season is this Sunday 1 June at 2pm when Ferryhill Town Band will be performing.

The newly revamped DLI Café will be open throughout the afternoon serving ice-creams and refreshments.

  • Sunday 29 June - NASUWT Concert Band
  • Sunday 6 July - Durham County Brass Band Association Contest. Performances all day long from 10am
  • Sunday 20 July - Craghead Colliery Banad
  • Sunday 27 July - Durham Constabulary Band
  • Sunday 3 August - Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band

All concerts are free and there is free parking.

Monthly Bulletin May 2014

    1. DLI Executive Meeting –

      1. The next DLI Executive Meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 June 2014 at 1400 hrs at the Rifles (Durham) Office.

      2. All branches of the Association should send at least one representative to the meeting. Branches which are at present lacking in a Secretary should send another committee member.

      3. The Agenda is as follows

  1. To make a list of those attending the meeting

  2. To receive any apologies for absence

  3. To agree the minutes of the ordinary meeting held 20 November 2013

  4. To discuss any matters arising from those minutes

  5. To receive an update of the arrangements for the DLI Reunion

  6. To receive an update on the unveiling of the DLI Memorial in Durham Market Place

  7. To receive any bids for the holding of 2015 Indoor Games

  8. To receive an update of the position in regard to the appointment of a Treasurer for the DLI Association

  9. To receive a report of the Normandy Commemoration Visit and the placing of the DLI Memorial to Pte Evan Hayton and Pte William Barlow.

  10. A report on the successful application for Normandy Veterans for financial assistance on the Commemoration Tour

  11. To receive a report on the Light Infantry Reunion 6-7-8 June 2014.

  12. Any Other Business

      1. Relevant papers will be made available at the meeting

      2. A formal calling notice will be issued.

    1. RBL Ex-Service Contingent participating in the London Cenotaph Ceremony

      1. The Association Secretary had received documentation and tickets from the Melissa Breitling representing the RBL National Events Team for those wishing to attend.

      2. Please note that no-one can march in this parade without a ticket of authorisation. Only veterans are permitted to march.

      3. Branches which would like to receive the necessary tickets and documentation for this parade should contact the Secretary as soon as possible to make the arrangements.

    1. Association Annual Draw Tickets 2014

      1. The Secretaries of Horden & Peterlee Branch and of the Hartlepool Branch are reminded that their DLI Draw tickets and documentation are still awaiting collection from the Rifles Durham Office.

      2. Branches wanting extra draw tickets can collect them from the Rifles Office from the AO Shirley Nicholson at ant time during working hours. If your branch is making a visit to collect extra ticket please ensure that you have made the necessary contact before you arrival.

    1. Last minute points for the Normandy Commemoration Tour 5-8 June 2014

      1. Members of the party are reminded of the need to bring their full current passport.

      2. Additionally they may have been issued with an MOD pass to enter the Normandy Restricted Area directly to their home. If this is the case this pass MUST BE BROUGHT WITH THEM ON THE TOUR or they will not be allowed to enter the restricted area.

      3. It is recommended that all party members carry with them their EHIC Card. This is available on-line to passengers at www.chic.org.uk or from post offices.

    1. Deaths This office has been informed of the deaths of:

      1. Frederick Charles Bregazzi on 6 May 2014 who served with the Durham Light Infantry during WW2.

      2. Robert Featherstone Jacques who died on 7 May 2014 who served with 2 DLI

      3. Audri Fenner wife of Colonel David Fenner who served with the DLI during and after WW2

The Cleveland Branch of the WFA Meeting 20th May

1914, False Expectations and Unreal Strategies – Professor John Derry

Professor Derry will be looking at ‘where it all went wrong’ for all sides in 1914.
He will show that the Germans and French in particular set themselves up to fail and if they had been more realistic about what they could achieve, then the war could have had a very different outcome.

Meetings take place at the Royal Navy Club, William Street Stockton.
