Service of Remembrance at the college of St Hild & St Bede

Members of the 8/11 Battalions OCA assembled along with representatives of St Hild and St Bede college to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the battle of Gravenstafel Ridge. Unlike last year the sun bathed the ceremony in beautiful evening light.

26.13 AGM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MINUTES

The Minutes of the Executive Committee AGM held on Wednesday 10 April 2013 are attached to this Bulletin. Please ensure that their contents are made known to branch members.

26.13 REVISED ASSOCIATION RULES

A copy of the revised Rules of the Association ratified at the Executive Committee AGM will be made available to Executive Committee members at the next Ordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee scheduled to take place on Wednesday 26 June 2013.

27.13 INDOOR GAMES 2013

The 2013 DLI Association Indoor Games took place on Sunday 26 March in the RBL Dubmire Club, Fencehouses, Houghton- Le- Spring. 151 members attended representing 13 branches. The Games were played in the usual friendly but competitive atmosphere and no casualties were reported. The results of the competitions were as follows:

Darts: Winners - Spennymoor.

Runners up - Houghton-Le-Spring.

Dominoes: Winners - Durham.

Runners up - Horden & Peterlee.

Whist: Winners: - Bishop Auckland.

Runners up - Stockton-on-Tees

Trophies were presented to the winners by the Chairman of the Association Major Paul Wharton MM ably assisted by The Rifles Durham County Secretary Major Chris Lawton MBE. Major Wharton closed the Games by thanking the host branch Houghton-Le-Spring for the excellence of their preparation, the umpires Frank Brannigan, Eddie Surtees and Bob Newton and the darts competition board markers Julie & Lesley Ainsworth for duties well performed.

28.13 CLOTHING STOCK

The Rifles Durham Office has received a delivery of V neck pullovers, Fleeces and Polo Shirts in all sizes. Please inform your members that they are now available for purchase.

29.13 KEN LODGE – CHANGE OF RESIDENCE

The Rifles Durham Office has been informed that Mr. Ken Lodge a WWII veteran and a member of the Chester-Le-Street Branch is now a resident in the Sherburn House Nursing Home (Sherburn Hospital). His address for correspondence is Flat 225, Beddel, Christ’s Hospital, Sherburn, Durham. DH1 2SE

30.13 LIGHT INFANTRY REUNION 2013

Branches will have received the details of the 2013 Light Infantry Reunion which takes place in Shrewsbury from 7 to 9 June, Please ensure that bids for accommodation, meals and passes together with payment are received by the Rifles Durham Office as soon as possible and no later than Friday 26 April 2013.

31.13 REQUEST FOR PHOTOGRAPHS

Harry Moses the Regimental Author is in the process of researching for his next book which is to be a history of the First Battalion DLI. He would be interested in any named group photographs with details of when and where they were taken. The photographs will be returned to their owners but it would be appreciated if the photographs were in an envelope with the owners name and address clearly visible.

Military Talks
