RIFLES BAND AND BUGLES C4C CHARITY CONCERT TOUR OF YORKSHIRE AND THE NORTHEAST - SUNDERLAND MINSTER - 21 JUNE 2013 AT 7.30PM AND LEEDS UNIVERSITY REFECTORY - 22 JUNE AT 7.30 PM

THE EVENTS

The Rifles Band and Bugles will perform at a Charity Concerts on behalf of “Care for Casualties”, The Rifles Charity on the evening of Friday 21 June 2013 at Sunderland Minster.They will be joined by The Durham ACF Band and Bugles and Buglers of 3 Rifles and D (Rifles) Coy 5RRF.

The programme will follow the format of the Albert Hall Swift and Bold event in October last year and have much the same content albeit on a smaller scale.  The idea is to create an opportunity for those in the North East and Yorkshire, who could not make the Albert Hall, to enjoy this critically acclaimed  programme.  All profits go to Care for Casualties

Outline Timings
The public will be requested to be seated by 1920 hours,
followed by the VIPs and guests at 1930 hrs.
The Band Concert will start 1930 hours with an interval.
The Concert concludes at 2130 hours approximately.

Tickets
Tickets cost £20 per person.  Group bookings of 5 or more £15 per person

There is new information on our website about the German submarine attack at Seaham on 11 July 1916.  This includes information about 4DLI at Seaham in WW1. There are images of the submarine shell now in the DLI Museum, and an extract from the 4DLI war diary in Durham County Record Office.

Sunday Brass Band Concerts at the DLI Museum

Sunday Brass Band Concerts at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery

Our series of Sunday afternoon brass band concerts begin on Sunday 2 June at the DLI with Pittington Brass. Come along and hear some of the region's finest brass bands perform in the beautiful grounds of the DLI Museum and Art Gallery. The Durham County Brass Band Association Contest will also be on Sunday 7 July, beginning at 10.00am with performances all day long. All other concerts start at 2.00pm.
The DLI Café will be open throughout the afternoon serving light refreshments and lovely ice-creams from Doddington's Dairy.
All concerts are free of charge.

There will be a meeting of the Executive Committee of the DLI Association on Wednesday 26 June 2013 in The Rifles Durham Office commencing at 1400 hrs. Please ensure that your Branch is represented. A copy of the Agenda for the meeting is enclosed with this Bulletin.

34.13 BISHOP AUCKLAND – VENUE CHANGE

35.13 CHARITY CONCERT – GALA THEATRE DURHAM

SATURDAY 8TH JUNE 2013 at 7.30pm

To celebrate 70 years of Finchale Training College, the College and the ABF Soldiers Charity are hosting a Concert at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Saturday the 8th of June commencing at 7.30pm. 36.13 LIGHT INFANTRY REUNION – 7 – 9 June 2013

Details of the revised parade format for the Light Infantry Reunion were sent out to branches attached to an e mail. Please note the changes and comply accordingly.

37.13 NORMANDY TOUR – 5 – 8 JUNE 2014

Through Galina International Travel the Association has organized a short tour of Normandy from the 5th of June to the 8th of June 2014. The specific reason for the tour which includes a visit to Gold beach on the 70th Anniversary of the D Day Landings is to  erect a Memorial Plaque on the site where two soldiers of the Regiment where shot by the SS when they were taken prisoner. There are only 40 places on the tour and it is hoped that all branches of the Association will be represented.

A well as the dedication ceremony there will be visits to Tilly sur Seulles, Lingevres and St Pierre following the route of 151 Brigade after the landings on 6 June 1944. The cost is £319.00 per person which may well be subsidized further. Accommodation has been reserved at the Great Western 3* Hotel de la Place at Lisieux. A deposit of £50 is required with the application form which can be obtained from The Secretary at The Rifles Durham Office, Elvet Waterside, Durham DH1 3BW, telephone 0191 3865496.

38.13 FOR HIRE – DRESS UNIFORMS

The Association has in its clothing stock two miniature dress uniforms – the tunics are red with gold braid and the trousers navy blue with a red stripe down the side. The uniforms were tailored by Morris Angel & Sons of Shaftsbury Avenue, London & would suit children in the 3 – 5 age group. They can be hired as page boy wedding outfits by arrangement with the Secretary at The Rifles Durham Office, Elvet Waterside, Durham DH1 3BW, telephone 0191 3868798.

39.13 ROLL OF HONOUR

The death of the following soldier of the Regiment has been reported to The Rifles Durham Office since the last Bulletin:-

Capt. Christopher Brian Phillips 1961-68

Served with 1 DLI in Hong Kong, Borneo & Colchester as a rifleman in the Int. Section  and the Orderly Room. Died at his home in From, Somerset on 3 May 2013

This regular event in the County Durham local history calendar is coming back home

to County Hall in Durham on Saturday 18th May 2013. The event, which is being

organised by the County Durham History and Heritage Forum, provides a valuable

opportunity for everyone interested in local history and heritage to share their

knowledge and passion with local, regional and national organisations and with the

general public
