14.1 The Bugle

Copies of latest issue of The Rifles “The Bugle” are now held in the Rifles Durham Office. This is a high quality publication in full cover and contains a large section of Regimental Association news including that of the DLI. It is an annual publication priced at £13 per copy and can be obtained by telephoning 0191 3865496 or can be collected by visiting the office at Elvet Waterside. Alternatively it can be purchased at the same price on a subscription basis direct from RHQ the Rifles, Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester, SO23 8TS by completing and sending a standing order form available from the Rifles Durham Office.

14.2 Finance & Strength Returns

Branches are reminded that the annual Financial and Membership strength returns should reach the Rifles Durham Office as soon as possible but no later than 28 February 2014. The form to be submitted was issued at the November Executive Meeting. Further copies, either electronic or paper can be obtained from the Rifles Durham Office.

14.3 Indoor Games Application Forms

The November Meeting of the Association agreed that the 2014 Indoor Games should be held on Sunday 23 March. They will be held in the Sunderland Victory Club, 39-40 North Bridge St, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear SR5 1AH beginning at 12.00 noon. Doors will be open from 1100 hrs. The application to participate and payment for meals ordered should reach the Rifles Durham Office as soon as possible but no later than the date printed on the form. Please note that a Branch Raffle Prize would also be welcome. The Application form is at Annex A to this bulletin.

14.4 Light Infantry Reunion – Warning Order

The Light Infantry and Rifles Reunion will take place from 6-7 June 2014. This will be the last year in which it will be based at Copthorne Barracks Shrewsbury. The detailed programme has yet to be finalised but branches will be notified as soon as information is published.

14.5 Normandy Commemoration Trip

Branch secretaries are informed of the following regarding the Normandy Commemoration Tour 5-8 June 2014 of which all those who are members of the party have been individually informed:

  1. 2nd Payments of £100 are due by 31st January 2014.

  2. In addition all those opting for the Emerald Insurance Packet arranged through the tour operator Galina are required inform the Association Secretary of their intention to use this insurance so he can supply them with the Insurance Policy details, and to pay the cost of this at £20.00 per person by this date.

  3. All those who have booked Single Rooms are required to pay the £30 per night Single Room Supplement of £90 by this date.

  4. All members of the party are required to complete and return the Insurance indemnity form issued to them, and where applicable give details of their own personal insurance arrangements.

  5. Final Payments will be called for in February and should be made by 28 February 2014.   

 14.6 DLI Association Commemorative Calendar

Copies of the DLI Association Great War Centenary Calendar are still available at the price of £5.00 per copy. The calendar can be obtained by telephoning 0191 3865496 or can be collected by visiting the office at Elvet Waterside.

14.7 Sunderland Expedition to the Edinburgh Tattoo

Sunderland Branch are organising a trip to the Edinburgh Tattoo. Seats are available on the coach for members and friends of the Association. Details as follows:

Hotel: The Ibis Glasgow

Depart: Friday 15th Aug 2014

Return: Sunday 17th Aug 2014

Price per person: £230.00 includes entrance ticket

I am pleased to report that we have not received notification of any deaths of DLI or DLI Association Members this month
